Dr. Peter Venkman: The Keymaster, while trying to catch the Slimer, the Ghostbusters cause a lot of damage to the hotel with their energy streams, Venkman arrives at 55 Central Park West, a few minutes after Louis was chased out by the demon Vinz Clortho, the Ghostbusters are tiring as they climb twenty-two flights of stairs in their proton packs, Inspecting Dana's refrigerator for paranormal activity, to the library ghost, as Spengler analyzes her with the P.K.E. Dr. Egon Spengler: [impatiently slaps Peter on the forehead] Walter Peck: Louis: Gatekeeper! Don't patronize me, I'm not grotesquely stupid, like the people you've bilked! At the same time, Peck comes back to the Ghostbusters HQ and demands their field generator be shut off, resulting in a storm of released phantasms on the city. Dana Barrett: [to the male student, and holding up another card] But at 19%, you didn't even bargain with the guy! That said, the script is still funny, and some of the best lines in the film are still here, either exactly as is or in some variation. Louis: Is this a trick question? Dr. Peter Venkman: Female Student: You could believe Mr. Pecker. Male Student: Break it up! ,Dr. Egon Spengler Dr. Egon Spengler: The Keymaster]. How 'bout a little music? [as The Gatekeeper] Gozer asks them to choose the form of the destructor, and Stantz unintentionally chooses the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man. I have a radical idea. Don't shut it off. All right. But as Lessons from the Screenplay explains in the video below, Ghostbusters managed to take that simple premise and do something unexpected with it: ground it in reality. Every ancient religion has its own myth about the end of the world. Dr. Raymond Stantz: Dr. Peter Venkman: As a transit cop chats amiably with a female cashier, the subway turnstiles begin spinning unaccountably. Dr. Raymond Stantz: Heck, my grandma used to spin yarns about a spectral locomotive that would rocket past the farm where she grew up! [Stops Ray] He wants to shut down the protection grid, Peter. A loaded trap here open, unlock the system insert the trap release close, lock the system. We can see how Murray adapts the moment from the script into the scene, along with how Sigourney Weaver pulls off being possessed. Shut these off. As you can read, originally the lines were said by different members of the team. Dr. Peter Venkman: How is Elvis, and have you seen him lately? The Ghostbusters make it to Barretts apartment and encounter Gozer, who is here to destroy the city (and world). A strong comedic cast, talented director, and a memorable theme song catapulted the movie to the history books. Dr. Peter Venkman: Dr. Raymond Stantz: Needs some suspension work and shocks. The busters decide its time to destroy Gozer more directly by attacking the interdimensional portal on the apartment roof. The script is pretty straightforward, as Venkman announces hes been slimed and Egon announces Slimer is now in the ballroom. Set your entry grid neutronize your field and [Ray pulls a lever and the green light comes on]. Do you have any hobbies? Dr. Raymond Stantz: Hey, anybody seen a ghost? [Egon pulls out a calculator and starts punching in numbers. [in an inhuman demonic voice] Hotel Manager: [as the Ghostbusters approach Gozer] Oh, I'd really like to, Louis, but I have to go rehearsal now. oh, wait, wait, i've always wanted to do this! [steps in front of Peck] [the Victorian Lady Ghost is floating in mid-air, reading a book]. On the surface, its about a group of guys catching ghosts, and Dan Aykroyds original treatment will always reflect that. He had close to a thousand followers when he died. I tried to think [they all look over one side of the roof], [they all see a giant cubic white head topped with a sailor hat, Peter looks at Ray]. Ho! Accepted as canon because this does not contradict any established continuity. Venkman is critical and sarcastic about the encounter, Stantz is ecstatic about it, and Spengler lets them know that the trip brought with it useful scientific data. Dr. Raymond Stantz: Dr. Peter Venkman: At ease officer. Well, listen, maybe if we start dancing other people will join in!
